Dr. Takata was born and raised outside Chicago. He graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana with a BS degree in microbiology in 1985. He earned his Medical Degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago in 1989. He completed a 3 year residency in internal medicine and practiced internal medicine for 2 years while on active duty in the US Air Force. He completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, TX prior to establishing a Gastroenterology Department at the Michael O'Callaghan Federal Hospital (a combined VA - Air Force Medical Center) in Las Vegas, NV. He has practiced medicine in Athens, TX where he resides with his wife and 2 children, since 1999. In his spare time he enjoys water sports, biking, reading and watching his children compete in athletics.
